You may have a bad download but you may also have a bad burn. Try using a
CD-RW and burn the .iso to it and then install.

    | I downloaded office 2003 from MSDN. While installation is

    | this a known issue or should I download from MSDN again?

let me guess - it says [letter]2561406.cab where [letter] is the drive
letter you are installing it from? Copy the contents to the hard drive and
    run it from there....

Thanks for your help. Actually the cab is CR560401.cab
but I will try to copy it to my HD and see. I've already
burned two copies, so if this does not work it is
download. It is just strange becasue in my experience if
the download is bad, you can't run the setup program
    anyway, but here goes!

Well that didn't work. I tried copying that cab to the HD
and it does not change the dialog at all. The program
acts as if it is not there. So I redownloaded and burined
yet another CD. This is the 3rd! Now it gives me the
error on a different cab file. I even tried installing to
a different HD other than C drive and it still does not
work. So I am at a loss to figure out what is going on.
Should I uninstall office 2000-sr1 first? That is the
version I have been running. But I do not want to lose
all my settings so I am trying to avoid this. What do you
    think?

No, she meant copy the entire Office program to the hard drive to setup from
    there. This usually works.

That is not working either. I have copied the entire
installation and it is asking for the same files as was on
the CD. I just noticed that I am not the only one having
this problem also. A little more thought is going to have
    to go into this friends.

I am starting to think that the Setup program is faulty.
Whatever it is using to check to see whether files are
valid or not for extraction is not working well at all. I
now have 3 CDs and two hard drive extractions that I keep
switching around until it likes the cab file from one of
them. It is now stuck on P2561401.CAB and it does not
like any of the versions. I am downloading for the 3rd
time the ISO from the MSDN Site. Can I get some
    meaningful help here?

Well, I can't offer help, except to say that I am having
the very same problem. I've burned two CDs and run setup a
bunch of times. Setup invariably fails on a cab file that
it says it cannot find (and then backs out properly,
    thankfully).

I see that you are also upgrading an existing Office
installation, like me. I can't help but wonder if this
problem would go away if I uninstalled Office XP first. I
am just hestitant to do that because if Office 2003 still
fails, I don't want to take the time to reinstall Office
XP, plus service packs, configure Outlook accounts, etc.

    Re: Failure Installing Office 2003

I would try uninstalling Office XP and rebooting. You won't loose any office
configuration settings. If you're using XP/2003 you can set a restore
point - although my experience is you'll need to repair office if you
    rollback.

Are you letting office 2003 uninstall xp or are you trying to do a
side-by-side install? Try changing the filepath for 2003 and doing a
    side-by-side.

I had no problems installing on Win2003 server - it only ever had beta
builds. The machine where I had problems originally had office xp installed
(uninstalled at least 2 beta builds ago). The cab it asked for began with
the letter that was also the drive letter where I was trying to install
office from... I copied the contents to the C drive and it went off without
    a hitch.

I am having the exact same problem, except that I am
using a disc from the 2003 beta kit. I have used this
disc to install Office 2003 on two other development
machines. I have tried upgrading over Office XP,
uninstalling XP, and running setup from the hdd. Nothing
works. It gets to a certain point and throws an error
for a cab file access. I can see the file and I am local
    and domain admin.

    Re: Failure Installing Office 2003

I have had the same issue with the MSDN version of the Install. The
way to fix it is to have the Publisher ISO as well and use that
P2561401.CAB file. Once you either copy that cab or direct the setup
to use that cab on the Publisher CD all will work. It is an annoying
problem which I believe is a CRC issue on the MSDN ISO image.

    Hope this helps
