    Can't open Pub 97 files

Last winter, I produced 3 calendars with many scanned
photos (460 MB each file) on Publisher 97. When I try to
open those files now, I get this window message from
Publisher: "Publisher cannot open this file. This is not
a Publisher file." But they ARE Publisher files. I did
not save ALL of those photos elsewhere and I need access
to the calendar files in order to use the photos in other
    projects. PLEASE HELP!!!

Re: Can't open Pub 97 files

Have you tried reinstalling Publisher? Does the extension on the files say .pub? I
will try to open the files for you if you want to send them my way. Remove "my" to
    reply.

Yes, I have reinstalled Publisher with CD. Yes, extension
on files say .pub. I would like to learn the solution,
rather than send to you. I have NAV. Does NAV cause
Publisher problems? I have Windows ME. Can you write the
    solution? Jo

Re: Can't open Pub 97 files

You can tell if Norton is the problem by turning Norton off and then opening
Publisher. Your files may be corrupt, generally it isn't a good idea scanning
directly into a publication. You could try disabling your printer before opening
Publisher. If you have changed printers since creating the documents you could run
    into trouble too.

been there myself a few months ago when I switched to a new Epson photo 825.
took me awhile to figure out why I couldn't use Publisher (any version).

Re: Can't open Pub 97 files

Jo, how did you store these files?

Have you checked to make sure your c:\Windows\temp folder is empty of all
files and sub-folders. If not, delete ALL the files and sub-folders.

    Then do a re-boot and a Defrag.

Then post back if they still wont open.

Whatever you do make sure you totally disable the garbage faulty trash junk
    rip-off troublesome Norton.

Re: Can't open Pub 97 files

I stored (saved) some of my photo calendar files on my d
hard drive and I moved some to an external hard drive.
Publisher 97 is also on d. NAV is on c hard drive. If I
delete all files and sub-folders from c:\Windows\temp
folder, will I have NO virus protection? Even if NAV is
causing the problem, that doesn't sound like a stable
solution UNTIL I buy a different virus protection
program. What virus protection program do you recommend?
    I didn't like McAfee. Jo

Re: Can't open Pub 97 files

No, you will not end up with no protection if you delete all those files and
    sub-folders. They are garbage.

This is a good freeware AV program www.grisoft.com Many here use it without
    any issues.

I would suggest you move these large Publisher files back from the
removeable hard drive to the main drive before trying to open them.
