Widgets and things
Posted by Dylan Parry on January 13th, 2006

Hi folks,

I'm a little useless when it comes to creating my own graphics, and
doubly so when it comes to animations. I'm starting to create an AJAX
application, and one of the important things is to let the user know
when something is happening via visual feedback like an hourglass or
some other widget. Now I am wondering if anyone knows of somewhere that
I can get little graphics like the above that I can use for developing
interfaces that have feedback for the user?

Ideally I would like to have a small collection of things like
hourglasses and little circles that spin round; the sort of thing you'd
expect to see in any Operating System when it is working away. Of
course, I don't want a load of tacky stuff, but a starting point would
be nice.

Any clues?

How do you do?

Nothing suitable here?

I'm sure that some of those would be fine, but it's not just hourglasses
I am after, but other cool little widgets and icons etc. The one thing I
don't want to have to do is deal with lawyers et al, so I'm really
looking for a resource where I know that I can use the images without
any repercussions!

That's an idea I hadn't thought of. I suppose I'll have to check the
licenses for the different icon sets, if I decide to use them, but
that's not as hard as checking a billion different sites

You should also be able to use characters from symbol fonts such

Ah yes, but "open source" isn't just one thing, there are things like
GPL, LGPL etc which are all slightly different and allow slightly
different freedoms.

Heck, if I only had the time!!

I'm sure I should know this, but what is SuSE?
