Semi-OT: Bad Site?
Posted by (PeteCresswell) on March 22nd, 2006

Am I missing something or is this a *really* poor site?

http://www.thorlo.com/

On the surface, it seems tb a very professional design.

But put yourself in the place of somebody who just wants to buy a pair of socks
- which is what Thorlos makes/sells...

Seems to me like what's behind "Quick Purchase" is the heart and soul of what
most users came to the site for.

Is it just me?

Per Swampy Bogtrotter:
Right, but pretend you want to buy some socks. Now try to find them.

They make great socks. I've bought just about nothing else for
years. But it doesn't take many -- they last nearly forever.

Per Blinky the Shark:
Same here, and I just ordered a dozen pair from their web site.

But I almost ordered from CampMor instead because of inability to find where the
products were.

The bottom line was actually *less* than CampMor's because of some kind of
spring discount and free shipping - neither of which was touted on their web
site. You had to get all the way to checkout before you saw that you were
getting the discount.

Not unusually poor.

"Professional" is not a compliment in web design.

I'd go to the shop and buy them. More likely though I'd go to the shop
to buy expensive boots / tents / torches and grab a few cheap pairs of
socks while I was in there. I doubt I'm unusual in this. Thorlo is a
well known brand and I might well look up the precise details between
their cashmere and hamster wool blend, compared to the angora and
aramid semi-synthetic, but I doubt if I'd actually buy socks from it.

PS - I don't like Thorlo anyway. Mine wore out in no time and the
elastic failed.

Is this some sort of trick question or something?

Click on Quick Purchase, select the product you want, select your gender,
select your shoe size, select a colour and quantity, add to cart, view cart,
proceed to checkout etc etc etc....

That's an unusual result from a thread that was started as a "bad site"
thread.

I didn't have any probs with the Thorlo site. I looked at socks and found
the ones I buy and browsed some others -- but I didn't go as far as
clicking a BuyNow icon.

Yeah, I didn't get that far.

Because they last so long I haven't bought any new Thorlos for a while. I
remembered them as being about $11 retail, so the $11.99 I was seeing for
the tennis crews I get seemed okay.
