OT: Agent 3.3 released
Posted by Ed Jay on March 9th, 2006

For those using Agent (or FreeAgent), Version 3.3 was released today. Lots
of fixes over 3.2. <http://www.forteinc.com/release/notes.php?id=33>

Back when I used Windows, I was a registered Agent user. It's a fantastic
news client, and was one of the last Windows programmes I gave up when I
switched to Linux.

If Forte were to release a Linux version, then I'd buy it for sure. Even
if they were to officially support running the Windows version on WINE,
I'd probably get it. But I don't like the idea of buying some software
that could end up not working tomorrow.

Good grief, I'm still using 1.8 <g>

I am glad they are still supporting and improving it, there was a time
when continued development of any kind was an iffy proposition.

1.11 here (1996)

The later versions have not been of a satisfactory quality for my
liking.

Or, in technical terms, they've been shit.

I've forgotten who bought who, but apparently things have changed. It
sucks when good tools go downhill.

Someone bought out the old Forte-Inc and started renovating the old
product. I think 1.93 was the last of the old company's product. I tried
each iteration through 3.2, and returned to 1.93 each time. About a week
ago I decided to try 3.2, as it had a 'new' feature I wanted. I hadn't yet
made the transition (there's some keystroke changes) when 3.3 came out. I
like it. I won't be going back to any previous version.

Matt, it's good to read your words again. :-)

I believe Agent's original *developers* bought Forte Inc.

I don't know if that's historically accurate or not, but I really like
the idea of *developers* being able to buy something! <g>

Is that intended in the complimentary sense?

If so, thank you. I appreciate it.
