thanks for that link........wow, i recognised a lot of my own woes in
that list of ailments linked to that illness.
chronic fatigue has always been a problem with me.
it's good that the doc there have finally recognised your proibs, mgw.
i can imagine
i hope it works out for you - you deserve a break in life.
i have to say that my diet has changed radically in the past month with
the purchase of this smoothie maker. it may well be my best buy in many
a long year. i can now easily consume all the fruits that i was missing
before.

Have you ever had your thyroid levels checked? Hypothyroidism
(thyroid deficiency) is underdiagnosed and, because it's more common
in women than men, your docs may be less likely to have thought of it
for you. If that's your problem, taking replacement thyroid hormone
can help. I know that I'm much worse when I'm on too low a dose of
thyroid meds (not that they solve all my energy problems,
unfortunately, but they make a noticeable difference.)

Well, actually I recognized them, did a lot of online research (with
suggestions and support from online friends from a parenting list I'm
on), and then searched until I found a doc who listened (took a lot
of switching docs.)
BTW, in addition to what I wrote in another post about thyroid, you
might also want to look into food allergies. Through an "elimination
diet" (basically, dropping most foods for two weeks, then gradually
reintroducing them one at a time), I discovered several foods that
make my tiredness and sinus problems much worse.
Thanks. Don't want to sound all doom and gloom - I have some
wonderful things in my life, including the best kid a mom could ask
for.
That's great! It's time for me to pull my blender out again
(smoothies are just too cold for winter!) Unfortunately, I'm now
allergic to most of the protein sources I used to use in smoothies
(dairy, soy,...) but they're still yummy w/just fruit :-D

The procedure is called the testicle crunch. What they do is... Just
kidding -- they just take a small blood sample and check the hormone
levels in it.
Hyperthyroidism is hard to diagnose without blood tests though, as (apart
from a goitre) most of the symptoms could be mistaken for simply feeling a
bit run down: insomnia, irritability, tiredness, weight loss, sweating,
vomiting and nausea, etc.
The opposite problem -- Hypothyroidism (decreased thyroid activity) -- has
almost the same list of symptoms. What a beautiful synergy!
Oh nonsense. Even vets here know how to test for thyroid problems.

Yes, blood tests. You can find some helpful info at
http://www.thyroid-info.com/articles.htm
You guys have those tests also - they've been around for decades. The
difference is that it's harder for you to get the docs to actually do
them.

lol
i reckon i should ask me doc for said tests.
lol
for the 'ard of understanding (despite said person having a degree!), in
the UK/Ireland we have loads of these tests, but we rarely get offered
them. For example, when i went to see the doc for stomach issues, it was
2 years later before the hospital called me in for my first tests. They
tend to prefer you to die, to get you off their waiting lists, as opposed
to actually dealing with your illness.
I speak with my Merikan friend every day (have done for years) and I know
full well the difference between health care in the US of A and the
UK...tho in Merika one is made to pay through the nose.

And you are not doom and gloom, mgw. You are a most caring person who
rarely focusses on yourself (unlike me!!)

In America, the policy tends to be to perform as many tests as they can
justify; the hospital makes a profit on each test.
