- Online Purchase: No confirmation screen before "pulling the trigge"?
- Posted by (PeteCresswell) on March 22nd, 2006
Is there any consensus on not presenting a final confirmation screen before the
user "pulls the trigger" and charges their credit card?
Seems like 99% of the sites I've used issue that summary/confirmation screen and
I suspect the few that I've experienced not doing it are walking the line
between just being sleazy and out-and-out fraud - by adding on items that the
user did not explicitly choose and would have balked at if they had the benefit
of a confirmation screen.

Sometimes I find them a pain. I think I have made my payment, then I
realise I must hit "submit" once again.
Then again for important stuff, I think they are quite good for that
double-check.
Not aware of any consensus. I take exception to your suggestion that a
lack of one implies fraud...speak for yourself.

Unless you're offering an Amazon-style "1 click" system that people
have to explicitly enable in order to use, then presenting a
summary/confirmation screen prior to charging is an absolute
essential.

Trust is everything when it comes to online shopping.....I'd say ALWAYS give
confirmation of payments before finally submitting them....It gives the
customer one final chance to change their mind, and makes them feel as if
they've made a more informed decision......If you just submit the payment
without first confirming it, the customer may be left feeling as if their
money was taken before they were sure they wanted to spend.....
With online shopping, you have to really mollycoddle some customers.....A
lot of people feel the internet is an inherently unsafe place to shop, so
you have to wrap them up in as much cotton wool as possible.....
