- Moving SSL Certs from Apache 2.0.39 (on Win 2K Svr) to IIS (on Win 2K3 Svr)
- Posted by Alex on October 3rd, 2005
Hi everyone,
Our webserver has been working great using Apache 2.0.39 on Windows
2000 Server, but the server's RAID controller has crapped out on us,
and we don't have another comparible server with a compatible RAID
controller card to get it up and going. We do have a new Intranet
server running Windows 2003 Server, and I'd like to move the website to
this instead.
Any suggestions on moving the SSL key from Apache to IIS? It's through
Verisign, so if I do need a new key will they give me any flack? The
server will have the same domain name, so I'd like to think they'd do
this without any problems.
Has anyone else done this? Thanks ---
Sam

So far as I know, Apache installs/runs fine on WS3.

you need a new cert. the key request has to come from the production
server.

Actually I have moved the SSL key from one apache server to another
with no problem, but I know IIS is picky when it comes to this. That's
my delimma...

This is not true.
You need the certificate and private key.
As long as you can get these from the old server and the new one is running
Apache they will work correctly.
I have done this many times for many certificates as we eat hardware for
breakfast.
