- Menu help...?
- Posted by T. Audry Glamour on February 17th, 2004
I put together a site quickly a few weeks ago. The menu looked fine on
my Mac with Safari, Mozilla and two versions of IE.
Recnetly when I checked it out on someone's Windows (98) machine the
menu was all squinched together. Would anyone mind looking:
http://www.seasideschool.org/
css at http://www.seasideschool.org/seaside.css (say that real fast
ten times...!)
Screen shot of what *I* see: http://www.seasideschool.org/sshot.jpg
I don't have a shot of the squinched up version but there was no white
space between the horizontal black-on-white menu items.
It validates.
Thanks for any help. I *can* be serious.

I see what you see in Mozilla and IE, but unfortunately, I have the same
setup other than possibly the OS. I use 9.1. Looks great in MacLynx too.
It's a lot tougher than "How much wood could a woodchuck chuck".
Personally, I'd change the look of the menu. I'd make the background all
one color. I did notice in the stylesheet that font-family rules aren't
properly quoted. An example is 'font-family: times new roman, times;' in
one spot. "Times New Roman" is not quoted as an entity and serif is not
added as the default. I'm not sure if that is your problem or not.
Ain't BBEdit great :-) Ain't strangebanana great :-)
I've seen a couple of schools that look very similar to the one pictured,
here in Northern Nevada. One is a historical site in Sparks called the
Glendale School and the other is far out in the boonies.

Thanks for the screen shot and comments. I 'preciate it. I hope no one
will be squinching the window that small but we know web visitors...

Arrgh! I validated the html but not the css! Thanks for the reminder.
Yeah! My editor of choice.
There are a few around yet. I'm afraid a large non profit may have
their eye on this one, thus the family decided on a web site.
Thanks for the comments.
