Mail server...
Posted by SpaceGirl on March 9th, 2006

Hi all,

I've asked this before, but time to ask again because i'm under
super-pressure for a small mail solution:

I have a Windows 2003 box, and I need a mail solution that can handle
multiple domains, pop3, imap and a webmail interface. Anyone have any
experience? I've tried the Merak mail server and it's pretty snazzy...
but super-expensive I've looked at Mercury+Squirrel but the PHP dll
it uses causes my PHP engine to hang! :s

Alternatively, if anyone can suggest a good value host for email-only,
that'd be fab too.

Help!

alternatively - I'll do you a trade - I need web space on a server outside
my usual haunts to run mirrors of emargency contact details and similar,
data collection &c.

Hmm... my old host is a lot cheaper than that (see www.easycgi.com). As
for your suggestion, I'd quite happily chat about co-locating content
if you need it. Email about it later?

Viable, if I had a spare machine. But short of kicking off all of my
..net based clients, giving up all of my media streaming and my Flash
server, I really dont think that is gonna happen Thanks anyway.

Windows 2003 offers me everything I need - PHP, ASP, ASP.net plus JSP &
JSTL (via Tomcat) and MySQL. You cant get that combination under Linux
(lack of good .net support).

Lots of very powerful email servers, but to expensive for me. I've done
a deal with my backup host and they are taking over my email problem as
of today Zero-hassle. Interestingly, they actually use a Windows
email server too (@mail for Windows) which has a really fab web
interface.
