Howdy guys and gals.
Please would someone take a look at my site
http://www.cajunlifeandtimes.com/index.htm and let me know if it loads in a
"reasonable" time. I only have access to broadband, therefore it comes up
instantly however I would like to test it with "real" people rather than
online tests.
many thanks,
Regards,
AL Baker

I was about to give up after waiting one minute, but in the interests of
science I hung on for another minute.

gifs and jpegs totalling 286K which is crazy for a website page. Even you
could calculate that by adding up the file sizes of your images.

Get it down to 35K or below if you *want* visitors.

I don't know how accurate the thing is, but you can check out:

http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/Downind...calculator.htm

Your page size (just the text that makes up the page) is 64KB...
The popup is 75KB on its own (including the image)
And there is about 110KB worth of images on your page (not including the
popup

So we're looking at about 250K (and I might have missed some, since Steve R.
had 286K)

Either way, thats over 30 seconds... and thats too long

main page is pushing close to 300K, the popup window is 70K... 370K
combined.

try using CSS instead of tables (that'll drop a bit of the HTML code),
and resize/compress those images, they're entirely too big for how
you're using them.

it's too big - especially for an index page.

You need a proof reader - "Can you image life in South Louisiana with
music" - s/b "without" ?

Why do upload an image with i.e. size 660x300 px when you only use it
in 220x97 px (musicianshealthcarelogo_small.jpg)? Make a copy with the
needed size in pixels and you reduce the kB (and download time) on the
page a great lot.

Using many other images (i.e "flag.jpg") the same way, and in this
case on the same page, is horrible! But I have seen worse, if that is
any consolation :-)

Awful. Also my popup blocked choked on the popup on your site, and rather
than closing the popup it closed your entire site! It was really slow (and
I'm on a 2.5mbit cable).
