- Language Translation Recommendations?
- Posted by Dano on February 8th, 2004
Looking for any recommendations on either website translation software
(which works in a shared hosting environment) or automated translation
services that do the same.
My site will be written in English, but will have audience from these
languages: Chinese (Simplified), German, French, Spanish, Dutch, perhaps in
the future: Russian, Portugeese
I have a rather small target audience (less than 500-700 people will be
viewing my site, but they are spread out around the world), and I would like
to find something reasonably priced. {My hosting costs $25 per month, I
notice that some translation services charge more than $2000 per year.
Would like to find something fairly close to my hosting cost per month, or a
one-tine price around $500 if possible.
I will have only a a few hundred pages at most, but it will include some ASP
stuff, and some downloadable files, a discussion forum, etc. No advertising
stuff to worry about.
Would like to know what others may be doing.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations or advice.

No translation software even comes *close* to a sit-down-and-do-it human
translator. Prepare to come off sounding like a tourist fumbling with the
native language if you let a machine do the work.

Take a look and see how we do it (we use www.freetranslation.com), we
don't pay for the service and a lot of readers make use of it
