- IP 2 City
- Posted by Vickie on March 10th, 2006
I need a database for my web site - IP to Country/State/City.
I'm thinking about this one ($199):
http://www.ip2location.com/IP-COUNTRY-REGION-CITY.HTM
and this one ($100 plus $15 monthly for updates)
http://www.analysespider.com/ip2coun...GION-CITY.html
I figure I better ask knowledgeable people before spending money. Any
recommendations?
Thanks!

It's not a recommendation, but it's just one I know of:
http://www.geobytes.com/. I have no idea if they offer what you want.

I pulled data from a lot of online sources, and got a fair bit of help from
the regs of this very newsgroup.....I owe a lot to Messrs Tasso, Sweeney and
Probert of this very mannor.....
Most of the actual data I pulled from the open net was from snippets of
other databases which only covered partial ranges.....
My list relies on the IP's being resolved into a numeric value.....Then I
allocate each country to set IP range blocks defined by a start and end
number.....

Hi Swampy Bogtrotter!
Thanks for the offer, it's very kind of you. I decided to buy the database
from IP2Location.com because I need something that's as accurate and up to
date as possible - your thing is 11 months old and I can't ask you to
provide me regular updates, can I?
The reason is that we provide local services and need to get a good count of
local visitors. Somebody viewing our web site from another country or even
from out of state is not somebody I care to count as visitor.
Amway, thanks again!

I've just re-read your original post anyway, and I can see that you need it
narrowed down to US states and even cities....I'm afraid mine only breaks
down to countries anyway.....
Still, if anyone else needs a copy, just let me know....
