- Invision bad word filters - help needed from experienced cussers
- Posted by Tony1that matters on February 23rd, 2004
I've installed Invision as a forum for teens in this town. I'd appreciate
any help from webmasters who are also good at cussing to spot any missed
expletives.
This is Wales - or "wass ee too" land (where has he gone) or "ee dah goo"
( he, she said, he went that way. "Bye thar" (it's near to, in the vicinity
of, leaning on) and "Eee dah doo", (he does it all the time, he was saying )
Matching exact seems the only way otherwise ass as a loose ban makes a
recent bass player into a digeridoo exponent. Now of course 13 year old
minds are obsessed with beating the system.
Help please from experienced cussers. www.aberdabadoo.co.uk top left for
forum.
Thanks Tony

I think you should cut down on the leeks.
I made a "rude words" list. All the usual culprits are there, you know what
they are. I feel if I block the worst ones, it's about as best as you can
do.

Exactly. That's why you can't win, partiularly not with a technical
solution. They'll just come up with exotic spellings or new swearwords
you wouldn't even recognize, or they'll find a forum that doesn't try to
censor their postings.
Swearing always has been and always will be part of the teenage culture;
if that bothers you or whoever's paying for the system, don't install a
forum for teenagers.

I think the surprising effect is the energy this has created: they feel
challenged ?
Some of the substitutions have become hilarious and I've noticed the main
topic of their efforts and conversation. They as far as I'm concerned they
can run the forum - they have Tee shirts to spread the word at School. I
just admin.
Thanks for the wisdoms.
Tony
