- Insulting customers
- Posted by Brian Wakem on October 28th, 2005
A potential client sent us an email today, he seemed a bit strange. Anyway
I forwarded the email on for someone else to deal with and put a little
note ('what a nutcase') on it.
Nothing wrong with a bit of banter around the office, only it turns out I
accidentally sent it to the sender!
He hasn't replied yet. Can I have some advice on how I can dig myself out
if this hole?

Some holes are too deep. Email the client, apologize for your misbehaviour
and move on.

that can happen far far too easily
I've almost hit send a couple of times over the years only to realise a
mistake before doing so
The advice I'd give is never to commit anything to type/paper. Sure have a
joke/banter but don't write it down. Mistakes can easily ahppen if you do.
You're only asking for trouble.
it's very hard to see how to really get out of it, unless you argue: that
there were gremlins in the system; Marsians took over my keyboard, or 'I
was only joking my dear' (the rod stewart option) .

bar his phone # on your cell. Hopefully he doesn't have your address.

You could tell him your voice recognition software was picking up some
background chatter from the office party. If he truly is a nutcase he might
believe it. But don't count on it.

Or tell him someone was showing him their new baseball protection gear and
you got distracted while composing his email.

Not writing it down isn't always enough. I once thought I'd pressed
