- I would like your advice
- Posted by nn on February 17th, 2004
Hi all,
I am working on a site for a Male choir.
It is still in the early stages of building it.
This evening I had a problem with my computer and the HTMLsheet from my left
frame had disappeared so I spent the evening repairing the damage.
Then I added just one page and there is something I don't like and don't
understand.
All the pages have a darkblue background.
When the pages start to load, the screen is darkblue from the start.
But on this page you first see a bright white colour and then it turns
darkblue....
Why isn't it darkblue when the page is loading, just like the other pages?
There aren't any pictures on that page yet, that was the job I wanted to do
this evening :-(
If you want to take a look, the site is www.geocities.com/kdm1878/
When you enter the site, there is a left frame (can't get the
not-yet-linked-words to show in the same light grey colour, it irritates me
but when they become links the problem is solved, nevertheless I would love
to know why)
click on "fotoalbum" and then 9 september 2003...that is when the white-blue
switch is ugly.
I would love to hear if and how I can change it. Any other advice is welcome
as well.
Thanks in advance for your time
Nolly
Ps I know most of you don't like geocities. But it is cheap (the choir
hasn't got that much to spend and I do it for free) and easy to work with.
At a later stage we can always switch to a different provider. At least most
of the work has been done by then.

Hi Alan
thanks for taking the time
This page you are referring to is the indexpage.
Please click on the button, the pin or the blue bow.
Then you enter the site, which has the frames.
regards
Nolly
PS
the colourcode 000040 is almost black.
So when loading it should start with that colour, not white.

It's only in Internet Explorer. I guess it has to do with the javascript
"spinmenu.js" which actualy doesn't contain javascript but HTML. It has the
line <body BGCOLOR=white vlink=blue> in it.
To view javascript errors, look at the botom left of your browser screen
(In IE). You will see a yellow exclamation mark (!). Doubleclick to view
the errors (allthough IE doesn't give much healpful info).
You can get free hosting without advertizing at your own provider (even
with a free account).

Also others like tiscali, wxs, hetnet etc have free sites with their free
accounts.

Don't know why, but I don't see <body BGCOLOR=white vlink=blue> anywhere on
the page. Where do you see it?If I can't see it, I can't change it, or can I
add the tag somewhere (with the right colourcode)?
And the only error shown is a syntax error which I always get, has something
to do with the advertisements Geocities adds.

The choir has an account with freeler, not sure if they have that option.
But I am more familiar with geocities and its functions. We can always
transfer it at a later date.

The white/blue switch annoyed me so much that I have deleted the script of
the slideshow.
It was a nice idea, but I will use something else instead.
Now I still have to figure out why the words on the left side are not all
showing in the light colour.

It was inside the file called "spinmenu.js" which you are no longer using.
You can upload your site with FTP at webupload.freeler.net with the choirs
username and password. (Note that username should be username.freeler.nl).
The site's adress will be http://www.username.freeler.nl
It's free has and no adverts messing the place up!
