HTML Editor with PHP support?
Posted by Fred Atkinson on February 13th, 2004

Can anyone recommend a good/free HTML editor that doesn't spew
garbage all over the place when it opens a file with PHP coding in it?
Netscape Composer doesn't work so well for this. I'm hoping there is
an alternative.

I can hard code my pages, but it would be easier with an
editor.

Thanks,

Fred

I use cuteftp for my editor though most of all my site are scripts not html
files so I realy don't need one. get it at cuteftp.com or globalscape.com

UltraEdit.

http://www.ultraedit.com

free 30 day trial and it's the best darned editor on the planet.

Think of notepad on steroids, with Schwarzenneger as a personal trainer,
with a black belt in Karate, Tae Kwan Do and Ninjitsu, expert training in
personal nuclear weapons use, along with a serious attitude - and you're
getting close to UltraEdit

Homesite is very good, has PHP support and color coding for different tags,
though it costs money, it is worth it. You might be able to find an older
free version, floating around out there, if you look.

HTML-Kit (http://www.chami.com/html-kit/) is the daddy for HTML
coding work. And it has a massive range of plugins available for just
about anything.

If you want something slightly lighter though then I recommend SciTE
(http://www.scintilla.org/)

Quanta or Bluefish are the two best free HTML editors with PHP support
I've used, but both are for Linux. For Windows, the best I've used is
HomeSite 5, but it's not free. It reads PHP, amoung other languages,
VERY well. I'd recommend buying it or trying to find it on the web if
possible.

Hope this helps,

Alex.
