- Hostgator and ThePlanet down
- Posted by seemysig@cyberspace.org on January 10th, 2006
Hostgator.com - and ThePlanet.com - have been down for a little while
now.
That must have taken out quite a lot of sites.
Does anyone know what's going on?

These sites have now come back ;-)
I estimate that the outage lasted for about 45 minutes.

Seems like a long time to change a fuse.

Pondering the eternal question of "Hobnobs or Rich Tea?", William Tasso
finally proclaimed:
Depends. Surely you've had a fuse blow at home and you've gone to your
toolbox to find a new one only to find that you only have a 3 amp fuse
when you need a 13 amp one? Then you have to go all the way to the
hardware store to get another :\
The real bugger is when a bulb blows and you go out to buy some
replacements only to want to hit something when you get home and realise
that you'd picked up the screw-cap fittings instead of the bayonet ones!

The local mini/metro/express/thingie supermarket has just started stocking
milk chocolate hob-nobs again (yee haa!) - although the plain variety
would be better. Also, they now have the new (to me) hob-nob flapjacks -
yummie scrummie.
Well, for a start I don't keep fuses (or other materials) in a tool-box,
but ignoring that faux-pas for a moment, fuse changing is delegated in
this household to those with smaller fingers and better sight. Besides,
we always have a selection of nails and there's always the old "foil from
the cigarette packet wrapped around the broken fuse" dodge
or steal one from another plug (best not pick on the mail server).
<myth class="urban"> An old lady in the hardware shop was facing that very
same dilemma (baynet or screw fit). The assistant suggested she unplug
the old bulb and bring it in. To which she replied "but how do I stop the
electicity spilling out?"</myth>
