Floating left menu
Posted by Kim André Akerø on June 8th, 2004

Sorry for posting on AWW and not on some HTML newsgroup, but alt.html was
rather sparse with responses originally (2 responses and then the thread
went dead).

So now I have the CSS for the left-hand menu (contained within a <div> with
float: left), and the left margin for the <div> that has the contents. The
problem is that once the text passes the bottom of the left-floating <div>,
the text shifts a couple of pixels to the left.

Notice the problem here (don't bother reading the text unless you understand
Norwegian):

Any ideas how to fix that?

In case you're completely lost, I want the text to be aligned with
eachother's lines on the left-hand side.

And yes, I've tried increasing the margin-left. The problem is still
visible, even if I put it 500pt from the left edge.

Perhaps you should specify the browser in which this happens. I viewed it

I don't see the original posting here, but the OP is
obviously referring to the 3px bug in IE.

The "problem" is in IE (3px bug), but it's so minor so in this case I
would't care about it. The ordinary IE user will probably not even
notice it :-)

I thought it looked great in Firefox. I was trying to figure out what
the problem was and couldn't see any.

Thanks! That worked like a charm! And it even turns out well in IE, Netscape
and Opera.

As it seems, it was a bug in Internet Explorer.

And yes, I'm using IE 6. Haven't bothered to use something else yet.
