- Firefox - bookmarks have disappeared
- Posted by robert blake on January 26th, 2006
OK, in mid January I discovered that a large chunk of my firefox bookmarks
had simply disappeared. I had still old ones there from 2004, and recent
ones......but a whole load from 2005 had vanished.
But now today I see that everything has disappeared. Absolutely
everything.
What the frig is amiss.

Might be a virus. I had one that emptied some email folders <sigh>

There's been shift-slip in the force. Trails of your presence in this
empire are slowly being removed. For my part I have deleted all your
access log entries from my servers - as instructed.
Soon you will no longer exist, in fact you will never have existed. There
is only one version of history - it is being updated right now.

With no history, and no ID number to prove that I exist (or indeed EVER
existed), I am fecked.
I can't get into a bank account; mor get money to buy food, or pay
bills....i can't get a passport to leave the country; i can't get a
license to drive; I can't get benefits; or see a doctor.
I might as well be dead. I imagine the crack troops will be along the
stret at any minute to put me down, like a homeless dog.
I am unproductive to the system.

No, that's not what I meant.

thought about even writing down everybody's name and count the people

It's modern technologies that got us hooked and dependent.

I understand completely - BTDT, one of the folders the virus deleted
was "Compliments", where I stored all sorts of nice emails people sent
me for cheering me up when I needed it.
So go get your computer scanned! The URL I gave above is a very
reputable company and is how I discovered (and got rid of) the virus
that ate my email.
