- email list question for AOL users
- Posted by Gary Peek on March 4th, 2004
I am researching something for a friend. He said that AOL
will not let him send more than about 20 emails at a time,
so that an email list using a normal mail program and
list is not practical.
I know there are online services than provide something
that will do this, but is it possible to make some
arrangement or do something with AOL to let you do it?
He also says that when these short list mailings are sent
from AOL, that they are often treated as SPAM by
recipients' ISP's. Why would that be, any more than from
any other source?

Actually some do but it seems to me they are rare. I also
feel that no one should use AOL email for business
reasons.

Of course, there are those who think that anyone who uses AOL for any

Perhaps in the world of the "larger/largest" business(es) that is true but,
in the world of the SMB (primarily the "smaller" ones or sole
proprieterships), I have found it to be a very common thing to do.

and the very first thing you do for them (assuming your relationship is
based on some aspect of IT) is get them their very own domain [1] - then
there's one more happy camper.
[1] Domains are so cheap you can give them away with your first hour of
consultancy/support/web-site/whatever.

I agree absolutely...
However, the point of my previous post is that your statement:
"No one (at all) uses AOL or any other connectivity ISP to process business
mail." is, in fact, false.

'No one' as in 'simply no one, dah-ling' or 'that's soooo last century' or
perhaps 'no one that expects to be taken seriously'

Again, agreed absolutely...
My knee-jerk reaction to any business situation in which contact is suggested
using AOL, Yahoo, Hotmail, or any other like email is to immediately question
the motive/veracity/intention/dignity/honesty/seriousness of that business
situation. (Unless I have a prior relationship with that business...)
