it'll do, come on in.
this sounds like you haven't specified one of the required parameters to log
in to your web space. usually address, username, password - sorry, I've no
idea about dreamweaver.
last time I checked images were still part of HTML
that's not usually a problem
Have you got anything on the site? URL?

This is due to site definitions, you will need to "define the site" this
information you will need from your host.... Do you have a domain name and a
host?

I fill this info out when I create /define the site--I am beginning to think
that this program might be broken so it cannot publish a site--program was
given to me--seems like a full program all manuals etc

It sounds like you should learn-up on your ftp there buddy.
For example, what is the ftp address of the server you are uploading to? And
do you have a user name and pass? If you have this information, IN
dreamweaver, click SITES, then DEFINE SITES. You will need to enter both
local and remote info, REMOTE is where the ftp server info goes. Without it
Dreamweaver cannot do anything for uploading.

There there to provide a service, the same as people here are volunteering
to help answer questions... calm down...
My advice is to use a seperate FTP client, it might make life easier for
ou - I reccomend something called Leech - you can find a free copy at
www.Download.com (v1.3)
From the sound of it you need to learn how to use FTP I did do a doc. on it
for my hosting...
This is the text from it... note this is only applicable to the service we
WERE offering, now no longer in business...
Dergal Hosting have a third party piece of software installed to manage
domains, one of the good things about this is the way in which it sets up
FTP accounts though if you are used to using FTP then it is a little
different to many other hosts, particularly free hosts.
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and is the commonest method of
uploading files. An alternative, particularly for larger files is sending us
a CD if you have to upload greater than 100mb, or you have a slow
connection. With practice, and the right software it becomes very easy -
FTP Software
The major alternatives are
Leech FTP v 1.3 which is free and recommended by us - available at
www.download.com
WS_FTP (from Ipswich) in our opinion outdated and unintuitive
Cute FTP - we do not recommend this as it was reported repeatedly as
spyware, if this is true & you are uploading sensitive files then clearly
this is a security problem
Dreamweaver, and other built in software, Dreamweaver (and Ultradev) is our
preferred nwysiwyg editor, however the FTP software within is truly
appalling, and though we do not use it FrontPages FTP software is also very
poor
We recommend downloading and trying out a few different FTP editors, a quick
scan through www.download.com will show up reveal many different FTP
software alternatives. Which ever one feels most comfortable is what we
would recommend. Most of the built in FTP clients do not contain enough
feedback for you to be able to see what and where you are uploading or to
have a clearer picture of the server and the file structure of what is on
the server.
Directory Structure
After you have logged in you should see a structure which looks something
like this -
YourDomain.co.uk/
WWW/
this is where all public files should be, when you are first doing web
design, all of your files should be in here
Special/
this contains certain information regarding the setup of your domain, and we
recommend NOT touching this folder
Logs/
This contains the raw log files
DB/
placing databases here enables a higher level of security - they can't be
downloaded via http. It is also easier to setup DSN's.
Do not upload files to the root!
For various reasons you can not delete anything within this directory.
Logging in & uploading
Logging in will require the following information
Address - ftp.YourDomain.com please note we may supply a different temporary
FTP address.
Username - YourUsername (as you supplied unless we contact you)
Password - as you supplied (unless we contact you)
Default directory - yourdomain.co.uk/www/
see above notes on directory structure
Remember domain names take up to 72 hours for the name servers to be
modified, so as the domain name is pointed to our domain, during this period
you will have to use a temporary address either in the form of an IP address
(a long number split up by dots) or via a domain on the same server. If you
have multiple domains we do endeavour to put them on the same server. As
such if you have a domain with us, second FTP details will be exactly the
same for additional domains. If you purchase a large number of domains (to
be hosted) off us, this MAY not be possible.
Then you should delete the default.htm file which is setup, simply to verify
the domain and to enable us with error tracking. The default file is either
default (various extensions) or index (again various extensions). For
further information on default file(s) please contact us, though a document
on server setup & control panel is currently being produced.
For various reasons you can not delete anything within this directory.
Dreamweaver
Although we don't advocate using Dreamweaver for FTP, it is one of the best
v(irtually)wysiwyg editors on the market - and as such many people prefer
the simplicity of the all in one approach. Essentially the factor to
remember is that the default directory must be set up for this to work. If
you do have any difficulties then call or email us at Dergal Hosting -
