*chuckle* I haven't had to call them yet but ... I can't wait!
I just started using godaddy to host two of my domains ... one paid and one
free account. The only difference with the free account is 100px of top-
page real-estate. Same 5gig space and 250gig transfer.
I'd recommend godaddy's basic/beginner host package. Since Gemma is a
beginner and all

I agree with one exception. Registering the domain at godaddy and
hosting it there seems to work out just fine because I have full DNS
control of my domain names and can move them around with complete ease.
Not my experience with 1and1.com which is why I'm leaving them.

Hello,
I also use Godaddy.com, and have for a few years now. I also know
several people who use Network Solutions. They're more expensive, but
they also have better domain searching tools than Godaddy.

Possiby 3 hours, certainly not 3 months.
My goodness! - feeling rather full of ourselves today, aren't we? ;-)
Certainly more predictable. One out of three isn't bad. They still have at least one DNS record in a cache somewhere that is
over a year old. NSI is like dealing with a government agency, prone to screw ups and their support bunch reads from scripts
and can't understand plain English.
Yep - 12 more layers of red tape, but the same basic service as GoDaddy for 1/3 the price.
Netsol should topple to the ground with a dull thud.

I've only read a few of the responses, but -
1. Register the name yourself. Never allow your host to register/manage the name for you. It's easy enough for you to
understand, and no one will be able to foul it up for you.
2. GoDaddy is a fine choice, as is (or was) Dotster. There are others, certainly, that are equally as good, those two are the ones
that I have experience with.
DO NOT USE:
Register.com - they arbitrarily reset auto renew without your knowledge - bad bad bad
Network Solutions - they're just too big for their britches and can't get out of their own way.

I strongly agree with Matt that it certainly is predicable that there
will be issues with NSI. And you have just proven that you do NOT
know more about domains than anybody here.
I registered my first domain with NSI because that was when they were
the only registrar; there was no other choice for .com, .net, .org,
etc. Unfortunately NSI acts like they are still the only choice. No
thanks!!!
When I registered my second domain, the field had opened up, though
the choice was still limited compared to what is available now. I
chose register.com.
I've since moved all of my domains to DNS Central, a Tucows reseller,
and have registered a couple of new ones there. So far I've been
happy with them. Note: I use DNS Central only for domain registration
services. I do not use any of the other services that they offer.

We all learn from mistake, Jerry. I appreciate your answer, which was
enlightening. I tried to get a bargain, registering my domain until 2014 for
just 85 bucks. It took 3 months to grab it, moving it from California to
Northern Ireland. In hindsight, this must have cost me. This dates back to
2004.
Best wishes and many thanks,
Roy

The stated problem applies to all registrations using a *.ws domain.
From the support troops at the *.ws domain:
<begin Text>
Good Morning,
Due to contractual agreements with our registrars it's not currently
possible to transfer an existing .WS domain between registrars. Your .WS
domain must be administered through the registrar used to originally
register the domain.
Kindest Regards,
Charles
..WS Support
<end text>
We have several clients who have *.ws domains and are paying $35 per year
with one group. If allowed to transferred to any number of other registrars
could do the deed for < $10 per.
Does not matter who you speak to on the issue it's always 'the other
company' who set the terms.
I suspect there are clear anti-trust violations and perhaps a few deceptive
trade practice laws violated but I don't have either the time or the
inclination to move on the issue.
