design tool I use has a link to the W3C validator built in.

I choose too validate my pages as I want my sites to be accessable to
anyone who wants to view my pages. It also helps a lot with issues
concerning accessibility, for example you need to place alt text on all
images for them too be valid.
Also, as has been said it checks the standards of what ever the page
claims to be written in. Eg if a page claims to be HTML 4.01 Strict,
it will check the markup againsed the specs of that DTD.

other web standards.

Hmmm. Always a possibility. Potentially it would be a good way for MSN to
control the search engine market - simply make the rendering engine on IE
strict :-)

Nice :-) Wonder what changes they made.

I got that too when browsing using Firefox 1.5. Then I refreshed and it
went away. Haven't seen it since.

it would be a bold move - the effect would be more far reaching than just
search I suspect.

Didn't notice - seems they're now supporting my UA

But the results would be interesting. If a mainstream IE was 100% standards
compliant, there would be quite a few websites in dire need of a re-work :-)
