CSS changes in latest Windows updates?
Posted by MeNotHome on September 8th, 2003

I did some windows update on my PC thursday or friday. I just looked
at my website and some of my pages have the CSS positioning messed up.

Was there a change in how CSS is handled in the latest update to IE 6?

Thanks for any info

I just checked out my other WinXp computer. It has not had the
updates up on it yet and it displays perfectly.

The strange thing is Help About reports exactly the same version
numbers for IE 6

6.0.2800.1160.xpsp2.030422-1633

you must setup a DOC type... in the HTML, yes there are subtle differences,
but using DOC types will cure this issue...

Here is the site in question

w w w . 3 d shoots . com
(spaced to eliminate harvesting)

The problem area is the line with the burgandy background that says
"Information"

Under the last version of IE 6. The bar was placed correctly and the
text is white.

Under the current version the text is blak and the bar stretches 100%
of the browser window.

Here is the doc type
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0//EN"

thanks for any info

I just noticed another problem.
On the Right column...

There should be a burgandy underline under the headings Over 2000..
and Many New Products and Friends & Sponsors

Thanks for any info.

xpsp2 implies service pack 2 for XP which does not exit. Don't know why MS
uses confusing or misleading versioning.

ie6 displays these burgundy lines. Mozilla and Opera do not. It is usual
in these circumstances to suggest that Moz & Opera are correct.

In the absence of a user defined stylesheet I would suggest a local caching
issue explains the differences you are seeing between your two ie6 browsers.

I would agree with the cache statement if the display had been a
problem in the past. But is was fine right up until I did the windows
updates on thursday.

yep - I'm suggesting that the upgrade cleared your cache and that the other

William,

Great call on the cache problem. I cleared the cache, rebooted and
bingo. Everything is perfect again.

Thanks
