"Contact us" question.....
Posted by Viper on August 15th, 2004

What do you all think about having no email address listed on a site, just a
contact us link that went to a form? Do you think most users would just move
on or would they take the time to fill in the form?

In article <rvmdnSCgw4dDnYLcRVn-ow@comcast.com>, Viper says...
I fill in contact forms occasionally if I find a really well designed
site to let them know what I think. I think if there's a problem with
the site though, most people will just go somewhere else.

True, but in that case they wouldn't use a mailto link either.
My guess is that if someone wants to drop you a line, filling
out a form (as long as it doesn't ask for information a regular
email prog wouldn't ask for) is just as easy as using a mail
prog. Especially if you'd (mention that you) send them a copy of
their message.

I've seen that mentioned before and try to include a suitable message on my
forms.

Have there been any studies?

I haven't done that yet, might be a thought to contemplate...
However I do provide a mailto link too, so most people have a
choice. Come to think of it, so far 99% (100 even iirc) of
responders to my site have used the form, not the mailto.

Probably, I don't know. I'm sure Karl (Core/Groves) can tell you
more about that, he usually hangs out in alt.html these days.

LOL!

You could of course post a new message there, or email Karl
directly. Using the form on his site of course <g>

And read his article about the matter before you do!

I could, but I won't. news://alt.html -> populated by two types of folk
o Those that should be (and are also) in CIWA*
o Those that should be in alt.html.clueless

There is so little common ground between these two that the noise levels
are intolerable (for me).

Maybe - I haven't spoken to Karl in a good long while.

Yes - I've read that. It's a good well constructed article that covers
the ground nicely as do most of his ramblings.
