- Can I change my contact info on a domain name?
- Posted by needin4mation@gmail.com on March 10th, 2006
I have several domain names and need to change my contact information
in them. If I do this will it mess anything up? I only want an email
address in there. I know godaddy.com was doing this for a fee, but I
have another provider who did it for nothing. Now, I have another
domain name company and it lets me update information, but before I do
it myself I just want to know if there are any ramifications.
Thanks for any help.

Pondering the eternal question of "Hobnobs or Rich Tea?",
needin4mation@gmail.com finally proclaimed:
If the current details are incorrect, then you should change them. There
are no, as far as I am aware, ramifications to changing your contact
details to reflect the correct information.

You may not WANT to though, as spam harvesters can use email addresses
in your domain records etc. We tend to either use a proxy (with our
hosts permission, we have THEIR contact details on our domain, and
should anyone want to contact us they have to do it via them). It's
quite common practice these days.

If someone can prove the info is false or missing ICANN will take back the
domain. Make sure you use all correct info.,
