- Beware possible cpanel exploit
- Posted by jon on March 21st, 2006
Hello,
I don't know much about hacks but I just want to let people know who uses
cpanel know that there is a person who has a website http://step57.info who
has written a program that can hack into cpanel. All I know is that this
person some how can get into cpanel and then he/she places a inline tag in
any html file and then he/she can get in. Once he/she can gets in I have
gotten lots of viruses and my computer crashes. I have reported this to
cpanel and they said that they will look into this.
If anyone knows how to fix this in the meantime can they let me know.
thank you

If you are the host - stop using cpanel.
If you are a customer - find a host that doesn't use cpanel.

Nonsense.
It only affects servers running the cpanel backup system.
Most use othe rbackup systems because the cpanel one is so sloooooooow.

of course it is - if you say so. I have no axe to grind here.
no idea - was simply addressing the O/Ps concerns. seems the same as any
other issue to me if it hurts then stop doing it - whatever it is.
ok - can we assume that 'most' includes the O/Ps scenario? just wondering,
I really have no idea how one would be able to tell.
