- basic unix plua secure wanted
- Posted by hector madden on January 14th, 2006
hello webmasters
I wonder whether someone could tell me I can find a simple reliable and
reasonable deal that offers the following:
1. hosting my .co.uk name
2. at least 10 megs of unix for a trickle of mostly text files
3. a secure folder (https)
4. anything@myname.co.uk
5. preferably a spam filter
6. email access on my own broadband.
7. no hidden extras.
8. reliable uptime
9. ftp uploads only
10.some means of contacting them.
11. also maybe a folder to park a .com or two in.
The reason I ask is that no-one out there seems to be able to spell out
the facts without requiring the reader to become an expert in stuff they
don't really want to get expert in at this time.
Cheers.

Well, pretty much any webhost will offer what you are asking for there.
Personally I like www.1and1.co.uk but there are lots of others.

I use Gradwell for much the same type of use (other than https, but I
know that's available). The basic email and web hosting package, with
the optional extras of spam filtering and https, should do all that
you want.
http://www.gradwell.com/?r=1162
(Yes, that's my referrer ID on that URL; I get a discount on my
payments if anyone signs up using it. But I'd genuinely recommend
Gradwell anyway, I'm an entirely happy customer, so feel free to trim
it if you want!)

Woooooo - something has gone bizarrely wrong there. My other sites on
Gradwell are fine, so it looks like something specific to this one.
Thanks for the heads up.

Two radically different approaches to the job from Gradwell and from
1and1. If I can do some thinking and understand the differences I will
know a lot more about what's involved. That's very interesting.
I appreciate your comments. Thank you.
