Ask.com

In the states they have started a big tv promo for ask.com They show a
search page, one item has a set of binoculars which on hover gives a
preview of the site. On tv this happens instantly, on my dial-up, I did
not think it worked. I was trying right-click, etc., and finally I had
hovered long enough for it to work. The first time on a site takes 5-6
seconds, retest of the same site looks like the tv ads.

I started to look at the code but my mouse wheel overheated - guess I
will have to get one of those water-cooled models. Seriously, really
outstanding code ;-), some elements are defined 3 (or more) times. Text
as x-small and .8em for example.

Wonder if they will ever make money? I would rather have their set-up
costs at 3% interest. Or to put it more plainly, I do not think they
will make money.

I love the cmpaign they've just started in the UK....A similarly high budget
campaign, but it has a feel-good element to it....
A guy sitting on a swing calls over two policemen and is seen whispering
something in their ear...Next thing, the policemen are pusihing him on the
swing.....Then he taps some big guy on the shoulder and whispers something
in his ear, and before you know it, the big guy is carrying him round on his
shoulders.....It goes on like this and I think it ends with him going to an
ice cream van and whispering something to the ice cream man....In the final
scene, you see him driving off in the ice cream van with th ebig guy waving
goodbye to him while eating an ice cream....
And the tagline at the end of the advert is something like "If you don't
ask, you don't get"......

Quite a clever approach I thought.....

We know the reality, however.

Geeky guy in a pub taps rugby player on the shoulder and whispers
something in his ear. Next shot shows geeky guy being stretchered out

I think there's a Firefox extension that provides that thumbnail, as well.

I don't know its name.

LOL, not if he's an Irish rugby player....Not today anyway.....I doubt any
of the Ireland squad are in a fit state to swing a punch.....I have a
feeling they might have been swigging a few celebratory Guinness'es.....
