Yahoo! drops Google: Webmasters must pay up
Yahoo! has dropped Google results from its search engine in favour of its
own paid-inclusion service.
Commercial sites will now be forced to pay Yahoo! to get their site listed
if they want to benefit from Yahoo!'s large user base. Previously,
webmasters could pick up visitors from Yahoo! by submitting their sites for
free to Google. So far Google has resisted the trend to charge webmasters to
submit their sites to the search engine, making money instead by selling
keyword-triggered adverts alongside search results.
The move follows Yahoo!'s acquisition last year of search technology company
Inktomi, which lists MSN, About, Hotbot and Overture among its partners.
Inktomi charges $40 (¡Ì21) to submit a URL ($25 for subsequent URLs) and
Yahoo! charges $300 (¡Ì159) for commercial sites to enter its directory.
With MSN believed to be developing its own technology to replace its use of
Yahoo!'s results, it promises to get a lot more expensive for webmasters to
draw visitors to their websites from portals.

Well looks like I lose a good portion of visitors to my sites since many
came from Yahoo because they
used google results. *sigh*

Yeah, kinda old-ish news. The IAR reported this in late December, IIRC
(though well worth repeating here, since many won't be aware of it.)
FWIW, networksolutions has a link to submit a site for US$39.95 on their
site;
http://www.networksolutions.com/en_U.../inktomi.jhtml
Which submits via Inktomi - which would (I hope) also help to populate
Yahoo links...

on SE for traffic now come into our own.
For those who do depend on SE, how many would pay to be included - and what
value is there in paying to be listed on page 30067 - or worse?
As I have said before, IMO SEs are great for finding sites but not so good
for being found.

You know, all this could be fixed if we gave bots administrative
priviledges. Then they could go through the net and junk any site with
outdated, redundant or generally silly content. After that, the world

not me - well not on a general purpose site like yahoo.
but, I don't begrudge them charging - they gotta pay the rent - their

Bill, you're my kinda guy in that thinking
It is frustrating, a little, to hear some supposed 'experts' go on and on
