Communism yes- it's a quasi religion; old men with beards, occult
texts, absolute faith etc etc, but nobody is being killed in the name
of atheism or secularism as such. No it's a religious problem mostly,
religion is a mental virus which depraves people.

Nothing new in this except for the scale, christians have always
persecuted jews throughout history. Anyway naziism was another quasi
religion with the usual bad tempered old men in charge, obscure 'holy'
texts, demands for total belief and obedience, severe punishment for
apostasy; just like all the other religions a thoroughly bad thing. It
wasn't atheism that motivated them - it was hatred of jews, otherwise
they would have been just as nasty to the other religions.

Well I have to admit that all this has gone to prove the reality that man
has done a lot in the name of their particular God. It does not matter what
God, man has still made that choice.
Any faith system, as the word implies, is taking the idea that life has to
be more than is known by science. To take on that faith you have to ignore
the lack of any proof. The old idea of a Sun God makes more sense because at
least it is simple to see that you need the Sun to live so it has direct
influence other than the influence on mans attitudes.
In my humble opinion, religion is nothing more than an invention of man to
cover the need for someone else to take the blame. When a child dies it is
easier on the mind to have someone say it was the will of God than to say
that death is inevitable but when that death is down to a human then that is
where I think religion is an insulting thing because any death due to a
human is more than likely to be through choice be it the choice to drink and
drive or take a weapon and kill the child. It also applies to adults but it
is a thousand times worse when innocence is involved.
But even after all that it is the first time I have seen Winnie the Poo
blamed.<VBG>
Just my thoughts and apologies if it upsets anyone.
I also changed the subject line as I also believe that insulting a religion
is not on either as we all have personal choice in what we believe and so
much of the troubles through history is down to both religious intolerance
and deliberate misinterpretation of religious text.
