Is there a good candidate for the first web-based retailer?
Just curious. I can't even remember now the first time I heard of the
idea. I think Amazon must have been the one which first came to the
general attention.

Amazon began their service in July 1995 according to various pages I
found on the web.
Th Avon Internet Business Park was listed in the NCSA Mosaic "What's
New" page for June 1995. Some of the companies hosted there were making
retail sales through the site but may not have been what you would call
a web-based retailer.
