Too much of the hard sell .
A proper domain name like www.discotelford.co.uk with proper commercial
hosting would be much more professional looking .
- get a .co.uk domain name from www.123reg.co.uk for £6.09
- wait 24-48 hours for it to propagate (I.e. before it starts working in
your browser)
- get web hosting from www.34sp.com for £15 a year
- change the nameservers in the 123reg control panel to the 34sp
nameservers
- wait 24-48 for the nameserver changes to propagate (I.e. before it
starts using your 34sp webspace)
£22 and one week & your up and running .

Way down deep in the middle of the congo, Marky and a hippo took an apricot a
guava and a mango. Stuck it with the others and he danced a dainty tango...

I noticed that Message-ID: <c9nh9g$ce$1@sparta.btinternet.com> from
Marky contained the following:
Top set of buttons are referencing files on your local machine (eg
file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/dad/My%20Documents/168/button4.jpg
) This is a typical Front Page cock up. Did you create a web or just
start banging pages out? Not that it matters, I'll swear there are
times when it cocks stuff up just for the hell of it.
I like the colours and the font, though you should be that not everyone
will have Lucida sans on their system. Whatever you do, try to be
consistent.
http://www.discotelford.34sp.com/we_...ing_in_wri.htm
uses a completely different font. And consider shorter file names
Clicking the dial up button presents me with the option of downloading a
6 mb movie. About 15 minutes with the connection I have here which I
suggest is too long.
Consider using a reply form for enquiries.
Lose the little animated graphics.
Are you really in the top 5% of something or other?
Don't diss people "there are countless people calling themselves dj's,
using very basic equipment that can be bought for the amateur market for
less than £300" You should be proving how good you are, not how bad
others are. I've seen DJs who were terrible despite having all the kit.
Check spelling and grammar:
"We cant stress"
"mobile disco's industry"
"the disco excepts another job "
"download most of there poor quality music from the net "
"We pride ourselves ..., with over 20 years experience behind us, I'm
...."
I think that's enough for now... :-)

thanks geoff for the advise, i agree with a few ideas, i picked a webspace
provider with frontpage extensions, not too clear on this but it should
allow me to make changes quite easily,..not having aa clue about html or
whatever, but this has sparked quite an interest in me, and hope to do
something alot more professional looking.
Also what planet is saint firk on???

In article <c9o23h$hv9$1@hercules.btinternet.com>, Marky
<dontthinkso@bt.com> writes
You have done most of the basics, but web design has to get all the
basics right to achieve a fully functional site.
In terms of design you have produced the sort of site most competent
first timers produce and I wish you well in moving to something "a lot
more professional looking" - that can take time.
One thing that would move you forward quicker would be if you paid a
professional designer £50-£100 to upgrade the site and teach you a few
tricks.
[Imagine if you saw me run a disco for the first time having had no
training and think of all the advice you could then give me with very
little effort on your part].
