New to group - questions

I have some questions regarding web publishing. Please advise me if this
is not the correct forum or direct me to the FAQ site.

1: I am new to web page building and have been trying Webplus6. Is there
any better free software programs for a beginner?
2: What is the best FTP program to use? Initialially I will be
downloading to my NTL webspace.

Regards

Try this: file:///c:/windows/notepad.exe

Just type the HTML straight in. If you don't understand HTML, try
"Waterstone's" bookshop, or online http://www.amazon.com

tip: The thinner books are easier for beginners, thicker ones have more
information but are harder to learn from.

Downloading to? Shurely Shome Mishtake??

If you use Windows XP, jusy type the full ftp address e.g.
ftp://ftp.myservername.ntl.com and enter your username and password. You can
now simply drag and drop files like a normal folder. If not, try Cute FTP
from www.globalscape.com - it has a free trial period.

One I quite like is the Chami HTML kit.
While this is a tag editor rather than WYSIWYG editor it does have a
preview facility (based on IE engine) as well as some code checking
facilities (HTML Tidy) built in.
Also, there is FTP built in.
And the big bonus on top of that is once you start getting into
Javascript and CSS you can download free addins which help with this
sort of coding.
For scripters there are also PHP, ColdFusion, ASP and other coding addins.

You can also program your own keyboard shortcuts.
I have Ctrl-W set to select whole words rather than double-clicking on
words all the time - my mouse button finger does get a little tired
sometimes.

Marvellous!

get it from...

I commend this program to the house.

Thank you.

I have since discovered I have Front Page on my system. I will give it a go.

My condolences.

If you use FrontPage, you may still manage to recover your site from
the damage, but it usually takes years.

Unless you know raw HTML code backwards and inside-out, don't go down the FP
route, for when FP screws up (which it does more that M$ would like to
admit) you will need to go into the hard coding to sort it all out.

FP is OK on M$ powered intranet's I suspect but when used on the (www.)
internet it fails to impress due to it producing bloated source code that
wastes bandwidth. As I said above it can be sorted but this requires a good
knowledge of HTML coding (and considerable use of the delete key), once you
have that you might as well use Notepad or Textpad etc. to write your
own....

Using notepad or textpad to write html is just plain silly .

Use something like 'html kit' from www.chami.com
