IE CSS Numptiness
Posted by Mark Goodge on February 14th, 2006

I've got a slightly odd problem on a site I'm working on at the
moment. It only seems to affect IE, and, to be honest, if I had my way
I'd simply not bother about it. But I'm being pestered to fix it, so
I'm turning to you lot for help :-)

The site in question is at <http://www.ukcommunityradio.info>. I'm not
asking for a design critique, as it's not yet ready for launch and I'm
not 100% responsible for the way it looks anyway. But I do have an
issue with the text flow in the main content div. For some reason,
it's offset slightly to the right for as far down the page as there is
text in the navigation div on the left. You can see the effect most
clearly on the station list page, at
<http://www.ukcommunityradio.info/station/> - depending on your text
size, there's a slight "step" in the list somewhere around the entry
for Crescent Radio.

This only happens on IE, as far as I can see. Firefox and Opera both
have a nice straight line of entries in the list. So I'm assuming it's
a bug in IE, rather than a bug in my CSS. It would be nice, though, to
have a workaround if possible.

Any suggestions?

Haven't faced fixing it, because I haven't had it happen to me yet, but
this sounds like the IE 3-pixel bug.

See http://www.positioniseverything.net/...reepxtest.html and
try googling IE 3-pixel bug

yup, 3 pixel "jog" bug. Set height: 1%; or something to #content and it
should do the trick, didn't try though, just looked quickly to code
Hopefully it works though...

Thank you, and everyone else who has answered. I'll now go away and

Aye - as a general rule, I fix/avoid this for clients and ignore it on my
