- Google Images
- Posted by Allan Jones on March 25th, 2006
Can anyone tell me briefly how Google Images and similar image search
engines work? For example do they look for jpg files which include a title
or some other property (in a metafile I assume?), or do they look for text
adjacent to the picture in the page, or is it something else?
If they look for a title, does anyone know a quick way to add identical
titles to a number of images? I have about 1000 pictures on my site, and I
don't fancy having to edit every one individually using XP, but if I could
group them by topic it would probably cut down the work by at least a factor
of 10. I currently have XP, Paintshop Pro, and FrontPage.

Google uses a combination of the image file name, the title and alt
text in the <img> tag and the surrounding page context.
