BSI Accessibility Standard

What does everybody think of the new standard? Has anybody read it?

I have to wonder about their commitment to accessibility. Firstly the
BSI website is very inaccessible. They set a small font size and have
not used relative font sizes so people using IE can't resize the font.
Also they are charging £30 even for the downloadable version of the
standard. They clearly don't want people to actually read the thing...

It's a joke. From a joke small-fonted website with 30 - count em - 30
validation errors on the homepage alone ! (Actually, that's one per £ for
the document!)

These people should get their own house in order before they start telling
us how to do it

I really can't believe that such a mess has been made of what should
have been such a good thing.

Interesting thread, I have on occasion used the BSI website for BS
colour purposes but the above URL is quite different to the one I use
below:

http://www.bsonline.bsi-global.com/server/index.jsp

I'm not sure why they need two websites?

Steve.

It's a great pity that this was done through BSI, which is run as a
business, and sets prices to maximise revenue (driven by government who have
no interest in making standards cheap). In fact £30 is cheap compared to
most "proper" standards which it is not.

Don't buy standards from BSI if you can avoid it. I buy international
standards from Australia, much cheaper than the identical thing from the
BSI. I have pointed this out to BSI and their regulatory body and they are
not interested. Lots of people buying standards are not spending their own
money so I expect BSI will be able to keep charging over the market price.
Anyway for British standards (and this PAS which is not actually a standard)
we have no choice but to pay whatever they ask. Sorry about the rant, I have
to buy standards quite often.
