I don't mean to create a pop-up window in the sense that most of us are used
to. In fact I just can't think of the appropriate name of what I would like
to create. Basically I would like to create a box similar to an error
message. When the page is opened I would like the box to come up, display a
message, and then be cleared by simply closing it or pressing ok.

Any suggestions?

Google for 'pop up window script' or possibly JavaScript, to find the script
that will do what you want, and then use the insert HTML code fragment tool.

FWIW, SP2 has a tool in it to prevent pop ups in IE, so it might not be
worth your effort to try to incorporate this into your site. Besides...I
among many, would promptly leave your site if I was assailed with automatic
pop ups while trying to view it. Instead, perhaps include a link on your
home page that one could choose to click, that would produce a pop up
window????
