Help!

I just want to create a link on my web page to play a sound I recorded with
Sound Recorder. When I click on the link, it goes into Media Player. I
don't want it to go there, I just want it to play the sound. How do I
achieve this?

Thanks Don (Schmidt), but I don't really want a "background" sound, because
it plays every time the page is opened, which I don't want. I want a sound
to be played only when the user clicks on the link. Since the browser does
not play sounds itself, Media player does, I was hoping that there was some
option in Media Player that would cause it to open minimized or something,
so my current browser window does not go away and the Media Player window is
displayed.

How about select Media Player Shortcut, Properties, Run Minimized.

Thanks again, Don. Yes, that will work for a shortcut, but when you click
on a sound link on a web page it runs the real thing, so attributes of the
shortcut won't do you any good within Internet Explorer (at least that is
what I found when I tried it).

I know there must be a way to do what I want to do, but it might required
scripting. When you create a background sound that plays automatically when
the web page is opened, Media Player plays the sound but does not open its
own window, like it does when you click a sound link. That is the effect I
want, but I have not been able to find the magical way yet.

The ideal solution would be to put something in the html code that would
cause media player to just play the sound without opening its own window.
But, like I said, that may require coding it seems like.

under the Tools, Web Options menu. ( a quick look in Publisher Help would
have got you there )
The background sound tag was designed for wav and mid files. (it pre-dates
mp3 existance) For more details in the background sound tag reference an html
help site like www.htmlgoodies.com
If the background sound tag is not what you want then linking to the sound
file would be correct, and it will load in the client's default media player,
which may or may not load in the browser (depending on client).
If you are wanting to embed a streaming media player, a) that is out of
Publisher functionality, and b) you have to order that (streaming media) from
the web host.

I did not want the background sound, I wanted just a link to a sound file
that I recorded with sound recorder. The link does work, but it opens media
player and removes focus from my page, which is the effect I did not want.
It is interesting, if you have a background sound, it plays without opening
media player. I wish it would have the same behavior when you click on a
sound link. Oh well. I can live with it, it is just somewhat annoying.

I also want to have music playing while someone is viewing my website. I
attached a wma file but I take it from your message here that such files
won't work. What (format) do you suggest I use and how do I convert a music
files to such a format? It's a track from an album - 5-6 minutes in length?

sound recorder and a microphone, is a .wav file. It will play with Windows
Media Player, either as background or via a link. My problem was that I
wanted a link but, when clicked, I did not want the Media Player window to
come up, like it does not come up when you have a background sound.
