form submit button not working
Posted by Rob on March 4th, 2006

My form submit button is not working. I have pub 2000. I have spent at
least 2 hrs with my dialup 28.8 connection trying to find an answer but all
the links seam to be bad for the answer I need. My web site is robsheets.com
look under write us. The form button does not work. I used ftp to upload
(not sure what that means) and I understand I need to upload it with HTTP
(not sure what that is eather) I really do not know much about this but would
like to.
Also, to click on a link to bring up a picture in my web site is there an
option that will allow the webpage to stay open behind the new linked page
with out having to alter the html in another program?
And what about the title bar I would like it to be different than my web
page title. Is there a way to do that?
Please help. thanks, Rob

Your web server must have FrontPage extensions installed and
working...your's doesn't.

There is an article about three down on this page about forms:
http://msmvps.com/blogs/dbartosik/default.aspx

And follow this link for articles about publishing your site correctly:

Hello Rob & David

I am also experiencing the same problem in Publisher 2000.

Problem URL: http://www.ab-couriers.co.uk/page5.html

After reading through the numerous posts on this forum with regards to this
query I have confirmed using the http://www.yourdomainname.com/_vti_inf.html
and with the hosts of my site that FPSE is installed and therefore I now
understand that I must republish my site using HTTP not FTP.

So I have read through the ‘How to publish a Publisher web in HTTP’ as
instructed, however I do not have a ‘Web tab’ under Tools menu/Options.

The only tabs I have are General/Edit/User Assistance/Print and none of them
give me an option to uncheck the "Rely on VML..." option, and uncheck the
"Allow PNG..." option.

So how can you publish in HTTP using Publisher 2000?

Any help greatly appreciated
Regards
Laura

The _vti_inf.html page only tells you that the extensions are
installed...does not necessarily mean they are working properly - especially
if you used ftp and then tried the http method. FTP will, 99% of the time,
break the extensions. Some hosts have an online control panel (like CPanel,
etc) which allow you to install/uninstall the extensions and some don't. If
your host doesn't you need to have them check the extensions and repair
them.

Hi Rob, Thanks for your reply.
I do have a CPanel and I have logged into it and under 'FrontPage
Extensions' it reads the following:

Warning: It is recommended that you DO NOT install FrontPage Extensions on
your account unless you intend to publish your site directly from the
FrontPage application.
Uninstalling the extensions from the main domain will uninstall the
extensions from all subdomains and addon domains. Uninstalling will also
remove all .htaccess files in your web root (public_html). You must have the
extensions installed on the main domain before they can be installed on any
subdomains or addon domains.
Installing or uninstalling FrontPage Extensions will result in the loss of
all .htaccess files in your web area. Any directories you have protected with
WebProtect will become unprotected until you reprotect them.

Status: installed

There are also 2 buttons: 'Reinstall Extensions' and 'Uninstall Extensions'.

Any ideas?
Many Thanks
Laura

Well I apreciate you help but I'm still haveing trouble. I got rid of one
problem only to have another. when I pull up my webite:
robsheets.com/page6.html it says at the top "[frontpage save results
component]" not sure why it says that? Also, when I click the submit button
now it comes back with, "Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this
page: "http://robsheets.com/page6.html"". I can't figure out what's wrong
with it. I deleted my whole website off the server and reinstalled useing
http this time. still the same problem. And I did reinstall the fp stuff too.

To me it looks like your entire page is a form but, I'm sorry to say I've
never used Publisher for forms.

Generally, you'd not have your navigation and all that other junk within
your form tags...but then again Pub is a mystery maker.

Try making a test page with a new form in a table and see if that works -
keep it simple one or two fields above your Submit button.

I don't know how to do a table. I really don't know about how to do a lot of
stuff as it deals with html. I like designing pages that look nice for
paper. This web stuff is different. Would frontpage help me with this
stuff? As I'm learning publisher is not made to do web pages but will if you
make it. I'm lookin for a program that will do a better job but still be
easy to use. I don't have the time to learn HTML before I get my web site
going. I can learn as I go along, no problem, but I need to start out with
something that's easy. Any suggestions?
