- form submit button not working
- Posted by Rob Giordano \(Crash\) on March 8th, 2006
Web is very different than paper and is perhaps the primary reason you
should not use Publisher for web design except for maybe very basic pages.
Frontpage is very good and can be easy..or hard..depends on how much time
you want to spend learning it. Yes there is a learning curve. You have to
know the basics of HTML and a little CSS.
Frontpage and Dreamweaver are about the best out there as far as WYSIWYG
(sorta), imo FP is a tad easier to learn than DW, and DW is quite expensive.
You may want to consider getting a webdesigner to get you up and going with
a basic web and then you take it over.
Oh, yeah..you also have to learn how to use a good image editor like
Photoshop, PSP, Photoshop Elements, etc.
.....nothing is easy.

I'm not against learning. I'm figuring I'll have to learn some anyway If I
want to be my own webmaster. I have no idea what css is, but wouldn't mind
knowing. I have a pretty good start on my website. www.robsheets.com , It's
just I want to go so much futher with it. Lots of thumbnails, guestbook,
etc. I am going to have to get a different program. SOme say FP is not much
better tham publisher with the html generator. I don't know what to do. I
do have a pretty good photo editor no problem there. Do you know if FP has a
thumbnail and guestbook button?

Well, I have had a measure of success with my submit button!!! Instead of
having it send it to my email, I have it going into some folder on my web
space. I'll have to figure out how to get it, but just wanted to let you
know.

FP will send it to a hidden folder within your web, Pub may do something
similar. IF it does you'd Import the csv file out of that folder.
Eha...there's a lot of FP bashers out there. I've been using FP since before
MS bought it from Vermeer...and it's come a long way since then. WYSIWYG is
never perfect, be it FP or DW or whatever, thats why you need to know the
basics. Dig in and have fun learning !

Thanks for you help crash. I think I'm going to go ahead and put out the $
on FP. Do you know if you can do a guest book in FP easily or thumbnails?

Hi Rob,
Have you managed to get your 'Submit' button working yet? When I try yours
on your site it seems to work, it doesn't come up with any errors.
Regards,
Laura

Yes, you can do a simple guestbook. Yes, has autothumbnailer. Forms too, as
long as your host has FP extensions installed and working.
Beware...don't use anything on the Drawing Toolbar though or you'll end up
with IE only pages and some code that looks like Publisher code. And, no you
cannot convert your Publisher web to FP, you will have to re-do it.
