SEO for Google usefull for websites?
Posted by lesjkajski on March 9th, 2006

yeah i know that Google is the major player.

But if the search engine updates more than half the time the SERP's ...
what's the use in optimizing for Google?
And i am not a businessowner, i can imagine the frustration if you spent
a lot of time and money for this and the results stay out. Even more
frustrating for the people who have a SEO-business. I would not want to
tell to my clients that because of the everlasting updates they don't
rank as wel as targetted yet. They are gonna think that that it's al a
scam and they will think twice before they invest again money in SEO.

Does anybody have some intresting thoughts about how long this
everlasting updates will keep continue?

Ok, 1 bonus point for you.

Yes, they will, forever.

Just use common sense. Google updates, SEO's find new ways to optimize
or spam, Google takes action... and so on.

Of course SEO is useful for Google. Being updated more often is a lot better
than a while ago. You used to have to wait until the next update to see any
changes you have made like with links and or changes on your pages. I find
no problems with my sites ATM and if I did lose or start to lose SERPs when
I noticed a big update I would be making changes to regain them as their
still could be some time to have the changes work. To me that is the best
time to make sure you don't stay down in the pits.

Forever. It is like asking when it will stop raining.

Web is dynamical, so search results must be dynamical too.

but that is not intresting for company's. At this way it is going the
last month it only gets more intesive and more expensive.

People might think that google wants more clients for adwords ... That's
not the thing where SE's are invented for.

it stops rainig when the sky is clear. It is very dark at the moment
offcourse, but for which reason sites must drop 1a` pages? There are not
10 pages better results every time.
If there's a site which scores better and it climbs ... that's normal.

But sites which drop out of SERP's because an update is going on is not
normal.

If this continues then a lot of people gonna say : "Fuck Google" .

It changes to much at the last half year to be intresting for non
SEO-specialist.

Don't mind me folks as I throw my two cents into this discussion. The
regulars here will understand that I am a little bit mentally challenged, a
recovering alcoholic with frequent bursts of delusionary thoughts.

Because that is what the web searchers use.

Oh great, a chance to vent my frustration. Remember folks, this a discussion
and this is just my opinion today and can easily change tomorrow. Being in
the Free World gives me a chance to voice my opinion, even though it may be
somewhat contrary to what others have said so far.

What can you tell a client?

I tell my clients that ethical web site promotion will ultimately prevail.
The most relevant web sites for a keyphrase search will eventually find
their way to the top of the SERPs. I tell that that we don't need the link
brokers or the duplicate content editors or the forum and blog spammers or
the .... We don't need 6000 pages saying nothing when we could do it two. We
should follow explicitly what Google recommends here
www.google.com/webmasters/seo.html I tell them that right to their face and
they believe me. Then I tell them to budget for AdWords in the next breath.
That's what I tell. I say let's do the right thing and then let's also bribe
'em, I mean ... advertise with them.

Google will catch up as they lose their market share, if they want to
survive as a search engine. They speak so highly of the theoretical
penalties that they can impose on spammers but these spammers make them
money. They are so afraid to lose money that they are allowing their once
good search engine to spew out millions of results for searches that pertain
to a dozen of web sites.

What's important anymore, what is relevancy have to do with the SERPs
anymore? A web page no longer requires to be related to the keyphrase search
in order to be the top result for the search term. What kind of a search
engine continues to encourage this? I tell my clients that Google has gone
haywire and spews out whatever is manipulated to appear as being important,
it rewards the exact same stuff it says not to do.

We continue to trudge away at building from within according to an overall
web site keyphrase theme and that will put us on the top, eventually, in
spite of Google.

Well, what does everlasting mean? It means forever. As Borek pointed out so
precisely, the Internet is an ever growing world with web pages coming and
going continuously. The results from a major search engine must reflect this
in order to survive. When the web searchers find too many non-existent
pages, they migrate to a better search engine, one that is forever updating
and repeatedly re-spidering.
