In fact Konqueror tells me there are errors in the JS:

Yawn.

It works under my firefox 1.5 on linux. It gives quite relevant
results (and, in fact, my site is #1 for "algebra", which I like a
lot!).

I started a search for a four word keyphrase 5 minutes ago and it is still
is loading the results. It is so freakin' slow, I'm about ready to give up.
loading .. loading .. the circular motion is hypnotizing me loading ..
loading ... I submit to the Gates God ... loading .. loading ...

I like the results it gives, eventually, but at what expense. Nobody is
going to use this. This is outrageous.

Oh, I have results !!

Hey, those are the results from my previous search. My four word search
crashed and it gave me my previous search results again. That's way better
than getting nothing. What a wonderful consolation prize.

Due to all the commotion, I /thought/ about logging on to live.com as to see
what everyone was talking about rather than relying on word of mouth. I also
thought about poking my eyeball with a needle. I haven't done it, but I am
still building courage. *wink*

Earlier today I spent about an hour browsing and testing features. It’s still in ßeta, so it makes sense that it’s acting a bit quirky.

I too get top ranking with my site on this new live.com, as I do on msn, yahoo, and others. I used to get just as good ranking on google, but those days are long gone.

We’ll have to wait and see if live.com can “live” up to its namesake, as they work out the bugs.

I know what you mean, I tried it in firefox 1.5 and my own
http://peculiarplace.com/mixminion-message-sender/ ranked #5 for "windows
mixminion" and #3 for "windows mixminion program", which is great.

But i've got to say 'live' is one of the slowest loading pages i've seen
since I changed from 56k dialup to 768/256 adsl.

The thing takes nearly five minutes to load. I had to have noscript
temporarily allow live.com inorder to see anything more than I could see in
Opera. And then the scripts are so sluggish and loaded with errors that it
takes forever to get anything done.

Results were equally slow in loading, and that little window with the
results in it absolutely blows chunks. It's javascript pseudo-scrollbars
are sluggish and unresponsive to say the least.

M$'s claims that this ..er.. 'thing' is going to be ANY kind of threat to
google is rediculous in the extreme. As it is right now, "bob's hariy
armpit search" would be more user friendly and faster.

'live' may have results I like, but what's the point If I have all this
trouble getting those results. As a search engine user I'm totally un-
impressed. They need to lose the client side scripting and concentrate on
something that works a heck of a lot faster and is interoperable with *ALL*
browsers.

Speaking of their html... I admit I'm not the best coder in the world but
I've NEVER written anything nearly so screwed up as this is. I ran it
throw w3c' validator and got this result:

Doctype: XHTML 1.0 Strict
Result: Failed validation, 265 errors

Then I decided to have the validator try with other doctypes to see if
other, more relaxed standards would pass. Nothing did... in fact, I think
it's a wonder this thing works in any broswer at all.

Doctype: XHTML Basic 1.0
Result: Failed validation, 271 errors

Doctype: XHTML 1.1
Result: Failed validation, 268 errors

Doctype: HTML 4.01 Strict
Result: Failed validation, 248 errors

Doctype: HTML 4.01 Transitional
Result: Failed validation, 238 errors

Doctype: HTML 3.2
Result: Failed validation, 246 errors

Doctype: ISO/IEC 15445:2000 ("ISO HTML")
Result: Failed validation, 291 errors

Hey I used "bob's hairy armpit search" yesterday. It stunk!

That's absolutely incredible. Seeing that they have been crying for years as
to how they have to develop an Internet browser to compensate for every
conceivable coding error that we make.

Here's a couple of theories.

Maybe Microsoft wants to lead us into thinking that they are creating
something so god-awful that it's rivals stop paying attention to it as a
serious threat. We all know they are going to embed this in their next O/S
update this summer. Microsoft fully remembers what happens when they screw
up an O/S update. Sorta' like a "Make 'em think we are developing a flopper
and they'll not see us coming." strategy.

You never know what these boys have up their sleeves. Maybe they don't want
people to use this new SE for web searches at all and it is intended to be
solely embedded into their software, who knows.

Just a quick opinion from a lurker:

Scrolly business is, of course, a bit of a pain, but the brilliant thing
about this from my point of view is that the contextual ads are on the right
hand side and not above the results. So where I'm #1 for certain search
terms, I really do appear first in the list and not below 3 sponsored
listings as happens with the MSN.com results - though I wonder if that is a
feature that will remain once it's out of Beta.
