- removing mention of person from Google search
- Posted by Stephanie on February 14th, 2006
I have been contacted by someone who wants her name removed from a
Google search, which comes up with a mention of her on a now defunct
website www.cix.co.uk/~oxwabldp (I am the webmaster for the new website
www.oxwablibdems.org.uk). I do not have access to the old website to
follow the instructions on putting things into headers etc - because it
does not now exist! The other instructions on removing a URL urgently
on the Google help page take me to a "page not found". I have checked
and she is correct - her name, address and telephone number are showing
for all to see on a Google search. Can anyone help please - bearing in
mind I am not a computer expert?! Thanks.

But the old website is defunct - ie no longer there. No-one can remove
stuff from a site that does not exist!! The webmaster for the old, now
non-existent site did anyway contact Google - who said they had removed
the mention of the person; but they haven't. She can't access her own
old site now to remove content - because it doesn't exist and hasn't
for a couple of years.
I can ask her to contact Google again - as the previous webmaster, but
this is all getting very frustrating. Someone's name, address and
telephone number is being accessed via a Google search that picks up a
mention on a website that does not exist any longer - she is very
stressed by it, and nothing that we are trying to do to help seems to
work!

I guess it says something about the accuracy of Google's results too.

Yes. Can anyone give me an e-mail address for Google to ask them again
to remove this problem? Thanks.
