- Google's Search Results Confused?
- Posted by Joachim.Wenk@uni-duesseldorf.de on March 27th, 2006
My website http://www.cityalbum.de has loosed round about 50 percent of
visitors since March, 8 over night. Only some sites with descriptions
of European cities are on the same place in search results as the last
years ago most disappeared in search results.
Following example shows how Google is confused at this time. If you use
the german keywords 'Sehenswürdigkeiten' and 'Hasbergen' you get a
result page with a description at the first place "Sorry. no results
with "Sehenswürdigkeiten Hasbergen" on this page (translated from
German). I think millions of Websites have no results with these
keywords, but not all them could be find at the first place of a Google
search.
Many of the first 10 sites on the first Google result page are sites of
cities descriptions with some plain text, but no own pictures, and
Google Adsense. Having no own pictures on these sites it seems possible
for me, that the owner of these sites never visited the descriped
cities. Text descriptions you can get from many other free sources like
wikipedia. Otherwise i found only adverts for hotels and more.
Is it in Googles interest, that people find such sites?

Joachim Wenk
