DMOZ - get your act together

you have violated DMOZ guidelines, see http://editors.dmoz.org/add.html

"multiple submissions of the same or related sites may result in the
exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites."
2) you will never get feedback about a site you suggested (unless an
editor thinks it is necessary to contact you)

For ore questions about suggesting a site please read
http://editors.dmoz.org/help/submit.html
http://resource-zone.com/forum/faq.p...site_questions

Used by Goolge or anyone else. That is not under the control of DMOZ.

No, it is a rumour spread by SEO companies who want your money.
There are enough sites listed highly in search results which are not
listed in DMOZ. And there are even more sites doing bad in search
results are listed in DMOZ.

can not predict when a suggested site will be reviewed. It can be
today, it can be next week, month or year, or it can be after 3 years.
We (the DMOZ editors) don't know. And to be honest we don't care. We
are building a directory (and are doing that with over 1000 sites being
added everyday). As a result we are interested in the directory as a
whole not in single sites.

huge amount of dishonest webmasters and their sites. I made a
calculation some weeks ago and from every 10 sites that are suggested
only one is listable. But we only now which one it is after we have
looked at all 10. This wouldn't be a problem if we received only 10
suggestions each day, but we receive between 10000 and 15000.
If you take care of the spamming dishonest webmasters we can review
your honest site much quicker.

Another point to take into consideration. No good site needs DMOZ. DMOZ
can help a site that is already doing well but it can never make a good
site from something that isn't by itself. So if you need DMOZ because
your site does not bring you the money you want it to bring my advice
is to disband the site now and find something else to do.

where his name is listed. On top of that we have several 100 editors
that can work in all categories without their name showing on any of
these.

pvgool@gmail.com has stated 'And to be honest we don't care'

That is perhaps the first and only honest statement i have heard from
DMOZ.

Thanks for your kind comments:

My site is a good site, in fact its a great site and I'm proud of what
I have achieved so far. If you say I don't need DMOZ fine. I want to be
listed in DMOZ, because like most bonafide people, I want my site
listed in all the RIGHT places, which as I believe, should include
DMOZ. My site does not bring in the money, beacuse its a free site, I
do it for the love of it, abit a like a volunteer editor on DMOZ ,so I
find your remarks of disbanding and finding something else to do quite
disrespectful. I'm not some dodgy SEO who's trying to make a quick
buck, from getting listed or becoming an editor

I do understand that DMOZ is a volunteered position. I respect that. My
argument is that the information coming out of DMOZ for submitions is
non existent. You stated that

Yes, you are right, I do not know if its been looked at or not, but it
would be polite because politeness can work both ways, to acknowledge
that my site has/has not been looked at.

All I'm trying to say, is a little feedback goes a very, very long way.

seo101 states above "Submit ONCE and forget about it" - how TRUE...

Posted by Gamesetal on March 10th, 2006

So very very true - tell it like it is - get rid of those lazy editors
at DMOZ or dump DMOZ - whatever - but let it be sorted

'get rid of those lazy editors'

i agree .. they should all be imprisoned for disclosing information to
spammers.
They really are the lowest form of pond-life.

And your evidence for that is?

Posted by jeff@silverstall.com on March 11th, 2006

Publication of confidential information held electronically on DMOZ
internal logs on public forum = breach of Data Protecton Act. Period.

For legal reasons we cannot reveal all the evidence however the above
link speaks volumes about DMOZ editors.
